I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff - Introducing The Rule of 28
September 7th 2009 23:30
What is the Rule of 28?
This is something that happens to you when you hit your late twenties. It's an internal thing, something that has developed since birth and kicked in before you hit your thirties. There is no exact science to determine when it kicks in, and while it can be thought of as a gradual thing, there is a definite beginning.
The Rule Of 28 refers to when you start to prefer things from your past to something new.
The best example (usually) is music. Pearl Jam put out a new CD, and you have always bought them as soon as they are released, but this time you listen to it and think to yourself "yeah, it's alright, but it's not as good as Vitalogy".
The stuff you like as your grow into your own person is the stuff you will like once you hit 28 years of age, and after that it will be harder and harder to accept any new fad or something different to what you are used to.
This is what we will talk about (among other things) on this blog. Join me for the ride, and of course I want to hear your examples as Uncle Gutsy tries to guide us into a new phase of our lives - the thirties!!!
